Gauteng police takes back the streets with numerous arrests

The Gauteng police recently recovered a number of vehicles which have been linked to cases of hijacking and theft in the Ekurhuleni area.

This is according to a provincial police press statement, which stated  2420 suspects have been arrested for various crimes the past week in Gauteng.

This follows the SAPS’ efforts to combat crime beyond the recent festive season.

The statement confirmed a 50 year old suspect believed to be a ringleader of the gang that is stealing and hijacking vehicles in Ekurhuleni have been arrested.

Roadblocks, foot patrols, tracing of stolen and hijacked vehicles, stop and searches as well as raids on various illegal liquor outlets all make out part of the ongoing operations.

In total, 136 suspects have been arrested in Ekurhuleni for crimes ranging from rape, housebreaking, possession of suspected stolen and hijacked vehicles, possession of dagga, driving under the influence of alcohol and assault.

All arrested suspects most likely will appear before different magistrate courts in Gauteng on Monday.
