Learners left stranded in Boksburg after drivers embark on strike

The Advertiser understands that thousands of learners across Boksburg have been left stranded after Ekurhuleni Metro bus drivers who ferry them to and from school embarked on a strike this afternoon.

According to Gehard Joubert, a deputy principal at one of the affected schools, Hoërskool Voortrekker, learners from his school were transported to school this morning, but they have now been left in a desperate situation due to the unannounced strike action by the bus operators.

Information remains sketchy and it is unclear why the operators decided to strike.

Our reporter has just arrived at the bus depot in Boksburg to find out more about the strike action. This is a developing story and will be continuously updated as more information becomes available.
