The Advertiser asked locals what Heritage Day means to them and how they were planning to celebrate.
Lameez van Niekerk: ” The day is about embracing the different cultural backgrounds of every individuals in our country. On the day I will probably join my community in cleaning the area and then I’m just going to chill.”Mongezi Mbele: “Heritage Day encourages me to take pride in my culture and be proud of who I am. On the day I will wear my traditional Zulu gear and then go to the hostel where my friends live.”Ntai Nthubanyane: “The day allows us to reflect on and value our traditions and belief as human beings. I will go out and celebrate the day with other Sotho speaking people.”Nosdello Mogale: “The day means so much to me because it encourages me not to forget my traditions and belief as an african person. On the day I will just cook and sit with my immediate family. “Donné Norman: “The day is about exploring where we come from as people. To me it doesn’t have any importance anymore, I just view it as a normal day. On the day I’m just going to braai.”
