City refutes false, baseless and irresponsible allegations by DA

In actual fact, due to the Covid-19 disruptions, an incident of delayed stock deliveries took place during quarter two of the financial year and has subsequently been rectified

The City of Ekurhuleni vehemently rejects what it calls unfounded and sensational allegations made by the DA in Ekurhuleni.
According to the metro, in a media statement released on December 3, the DA alleged the City’s Roads Department has run out of tar and is losing the ‘war on potholes’.
However, the metro spokesperson, Thembe Gadebe, said: “The City of Ekurhuleni would like to set the record straight and inform the public that the metro is not short of any tar patching materials.
“Due to the unexpected nature of the pandemic and the regulations of lockdown, an incident of delayed stock deliveries took place during quarter two of the financial year and has subsequently been rectified,” he explained.
Gadebe said the City finds it unfortunate that the DA would seek to exploit a global health crisis to score cheap political points.
“In this time of crisis, it would be expected that all members of council would work together in putting the citizens first and ensuring all parties work together to avoid any disruption in the quality services the City has been delivering to date.
“The City remains committed to delivering quality public services to the citizens of Ekurhuleni. This commitment was qualified earlier this year, when the City of Ekurhuleni came a close second place in the Consulta South African Customer Satisfaction Index in Local Government for 2020.
“The City of Ekurhuleni remains the leading metropolitan municipality in terms of service delivery in Gauteng. The City is winning the war on potholes and will continue to keep the City’s roads safe and usable throughout the December festive season,” said Gadebe.
Gadebe added that no amount of cheap politicking will derail the City from providing quality and sustainable services to its people, including maintaining of its roads.
