Unified Joshua Generation (UJG) acknowledged eight of its students at a graduation ceremony held at Van Dyk Park on November 28.
The graduates, which included seven women and one man, were honoured after successfully studying full function bookkeeping.
UJG is a NGO situated in Van Dyk Park. The school was established in 2006 and was officially registered as an NPO in 2014.
Quizzed about the event, UJG teacher and founder Rochelle Moodley said: “It was indeed an overwhelming experience which turned out to be better than my first graduation in 2015.
“I run this purely under the NPO and I am not compensated for my time, the small fees that were charged covered the reading and writing material as well the pastel accounting programme that I used to teach on.
“My passion is to educate, empower and equip, as my journey has taught me that it’s better to give a hand up through education – which is life changing, rather than a hand out which doesn’t last.
“I also teach at Boksburg Correctional Services’ juvenile section, where I will be graduating 25 young men on December 14. This walk or path that I have chosen is not easy but it is indeed worth it when I look at the fruits of my hard work and efforts put in,” said Moodley.
The school is short of some stationery and financial injection to help some of its students to pay school fees.
