Organisations join forces to clean up Atlasville on Youth Day

The Benoni Lakes Lions Club is pleased with the number of young people who gave up their free time on Youth Day to make a difference.

Members of the Benoni Lakes Lions Club and Atlasville Organisation joined forces to clean up Atlasville on Youth Day.

Starting from as early as 09:00, about 16 volunteers picked up litter around Finch Road for two hours.

Resident Pierre Marneweck, a member of the Atlasville Organisation, contacted the Lions Club with the idea of doing a joint project after reading about their ongoing recycling projects.

The Benoni Lakes Lions president, Beaulieu Maré, said that the club was happy to be part of this initiative and congratulated the Atlasville Organisation on what it is doing to make Atlasville safer and more environmentally aware community.

“We are especially pleased that several young people came along and gave up their free time on Youth Day to make a difference.

“The Lions’ motto is we serve, and we can achieve so much more when we join forces with others,” Maré said.

Both organisations have committed to collaborate on other initiatives in the future.

Marneweck said, “If each one of us makes a small change and makes one small impact, the world will be a better place.”

Furthermore, Benoni Lakes Lions is collecting used spectacles, sunglasses, printer cartridges and plastic bottle tops and bread bag tags for recycling.
