Women shine in a male-dominated environment
The officials said that although they work in a male-dominated environment, they have managed to excelled over the years.
To uphold gender equality in the Department of Correctional Services, eight female officials from Boksburg Correctional Services have recently been appointed to managerial positions.
The Advertiser spoke to some of the appointees, who shared that although they worked in a male-dominated environment, they excelled over the years.
Lebogang Selahle, who has been promoted to assistant director for centre coordinator corrections, said she felt honoured to be trusted to this position.
She explained her responsibility entails ensuring the environment at the correctional centre is safe and conducive for offenders at all times. Selahle joined the Department of Correctional Services in 2007.

“Because I’ve always helped people, I decided to join the department to help change the mental state of offenders by encouraging them to be better people in our society.”
Another proud official, May Mashinini, who also joined the department in 2007, said the appointment proved that her hard work and determination paid off.
“Working in a male-dominated field was challenging but through hard work, I overcame the challenges.”

She’s been appointed senior correctional officer in the financial management accounting department.
Meanwhile, Linnet Lebyane said due to the alarming statistics of crime, she decided to join the correctional services to help rehabilitate offenders.
Lebyane, who joined the Department of Correctional Services in 2005, said she’s happy she was recognised and honoured to be trusted with the department’s finances as the assistant director for the financial management accounting department.
