Local learner crowned Miss Mini Teen South Africa Gauteng

The newly crowned Miss Mini Teen South Africa Gauteng wants to use her platform to help animals.

Ivanke de Lang, a Grade Six learner at Laerskool Westwood, was recently crowned Miss Mini Teen South Africa Gauteng 2021 at the ACCP Hall in Pretoria.

De Lang, a Bonaero Park resident, explained about 70 contestants from all over South Africa competed in various categories (girls and boys from three to 24 years).

The judging of the competition included an interview, where finalists had to introduce themselves to the judges and answer questions. There was evening wear judging (where de Lang wore an evening dress made by Angeline Designs). She also had to dress up as a cartoon hero (where de Lang dressed up as Wonder Woman).

The beauty queen said she feels honoured to represent Gauteng during her year of reign.
“I would like to use this platform to further my charity work with my stepmom, Heidi. I’m passionate about animals, so I would like to continue doing charity work for Four Paws and get more involved with the SPCAs and rescue shelters in my community.

“I only recently started competing in pageants. My stepmom is Mrs Africa Queen 2013 and I always attended pageants with her. She is a professional judge as well. I never imagined that one day I will also be one of the contestants. It took hard work and dedication to prepare for such a big pageant. I would do this over again not just for a sash and crown, but for the friends I made and the confidence I gained. I feel so much better about myself knowing I can make a difference in other people’s lives,” she said.

Her hobbies include reading, swimming and spending time with her family, including the family’s pugs, Bella and Diesel.
Heidi is proud of Ivanke’s accomplishment and said: “We are super proud of Ivanke and what she has achieved in this short period. We have seen a little girl transform into a lady. The confidence she gained in the last week has shown us what she is capable of. Thank you to Pageants SA and Carolyn Botha that gave her this opportunity and platform.”
