Support group commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In line with Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, members of the Reiger Park Cancer Support Group held an informative session about breast cancer at the Reiger Park Clinic on October 9.

Dressed in pink, members of the support group raised awareness about the impact of breast cancer.

According to Ulita Billings, founder of the group, “Due to the hard lockdown last year, we couldn’t hold our cancer events, but I’m glad that at least this year we managed to host our annual cancer awareness event.

“During such events, we not only share the truth that cancer impacts women and men. As a result of this, we also saw a large number of men getting tested for prostate cancer at the venue. We believe early detection is important to save lives because cancer is not a death sentence for everyone.”

During the event, members of the group wrapped trees in pink material to make people aware of cancer.

Billings said the event wouldn’t have been fruitful without the support they received from the community and Reiger Park Clinic nurses.

“Thank you to our members for their passion, commitment and hard work,” said Billings.
