WATCH: Local learner on her way to hit the American stage
The local learner is dreaming about becoming a successful singer.
Suzaan Raath, a Hoërskool Oosterlig learner, was recently selected to be part of the national team that will represent South Africa in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in July.
This was after she impressed at the South African Championships of Performing Arts in Rustenburg from October 1 to 10.
The 15-year-old explained the championship is an international competition where people from over 60 other countries are expected to compete against each other. Raath will compete in the singing category.
“This is an official international competition programme for seasoned and up-and-coming performers held annually and judged by Hollywood industry professionals,” Raath explained.
She said she feels honoured and proud she came this far with her talent.
“It’s so unexpected; however, I’m excited about the adventure. I’ve been singing since I was little, but I started with professional training with Andre Martinez from HOTT Talent Productions Vocal Training. I started competing in competitions, such as Con Spirito and Vivarté and Dell’Arte. Because I did so well in these competitions, Martinez entered me into the South African Championships of Performing Arts regionals, where I won a silver and bronze medal. I also qualified as a finalist in the 2022 South African team as my score was over 90% for my solo performance.
“I want to become a successful singer in a tough industry,” said Raath.
The learner expressed her gratitude to those who supported her during her journey.
“Thank you so much to my parents (Twanette and Francois Mynhardt), my brother and sister-in-law (Juandre and Zanelle Raath), my grandmother (Susan Chamberlain), Mammi Mosia and everybody who cares about me,” she said.
