Khayalabantwana’s hands were tied during lockdown

Windmill Park-based organisation Khayalabantwana Bebambisene held its AGM on November 20 at Fountain of Life Church.

The meeting was attended by board members, beneficiaries and their parents.

Sithembiso Dlamini of Khayalabantwana said due to the efforts of the pandemic, all their plans for the period of 2020/21 had to be halted following the strict lockdown guidelines.

“Due to the fact that public gatherings weren’t allowed, we were unable to cook for our beneficiaries at the centre; however, we distributed food parcels to their homes,” he said.

Dlamini said another challenge the organisation saw was the relocation of beneficiaries without informing social workers about their new addresses. Besides the challenges, the organisation bagged some success, including beneficiaries receiving assistance to get birth certificates, child support and foster care grants.

“We are also happy to report that many of our staff members went for training in regards to Covid-19, youth care services, conflict management and office administration. We also had our adult clients participating in nutritional food gardening project to eradicate hunger in households.”

Furthermore, deputy chairperson Solomon Kgonyane shared that about 239 clients received psychosocial service, while 353 of their beneficiaries received food parcels from April to September last year.

Kgonyane expressed gratitude to Pact SA, which supplied the organisation with airtime and data for caregivers who conduct the OVC programme when they couldn’t visit their clients in their homes.

The organisation further thanked generous members of the public for their donations of clothing items.
