Pastors from various churches in Windmill Park, a social worker and members of the community held a prayer session against crime on February 13.
The prayer, held at the Vultures sports ground in Windmill Park, was led by Pastor Joshua Dywili of Unlimited Worshippers of God Church.
Among the attendees were Moses Linda of Fountain of Christ Ministries Church, Pastor Chris Leputu of the Bethel Ministries Church, Pastor Arnold Fortuin of Outreach For Christ Ministries Church and social worker Maria Gaba.
Dywili said it’s important for pastors and community members to ask for God’s intervention to deal with the scourge of crime in the township.
“God instructed me to host this prayer session with other pastors and the community. We find dead people on almost a weekly basis and while other various crimes are committed daily, I believe God will stop such evil through our prayers,” said Dywili.
Linda said it is only God who has the power to stop their community.
“If we sincerely pray to Him, he will stop these violent crimes,” said Linda.
Leputu told attendees that God chose pastors to be watchmen of His kingdom.
“When there are problems in the society, as pastors, we need to take action and lead people to God so the problems would be alleviated,” said Leputu.
Pastor Fortuin said they are there to pray because the killings have gone out of control.
“Our problems have exacerbated here in Windmill Park so we disparately need God.”
Gaba said that many evil things are happening in their area.
“We have substance abusers and criminals, but this prayer will help us to stop and eradicate all those ills,” said Gaba.
