Ward 34 ANC branch patches potholes

The Ward 34 ANC branch in Reiger Park patched several potholes in Gerry Oberholzer Street recently.
Members are planning to patch more potholes in other streets soon.

A member of the ANC branch, Joe Swarts, said they saw it fit to patch the potholes because they are residents of Reiger Park and can’t just stand by while fellow residents are complaining about the condition of roads.

“This street that we patched has been in that dire state for a long time. The street becomes worse when it rains, you can’t easily drive on it,” said Swarts.

“The metro is taking a long time to patch potholes, so we are taking up the task. The potholes have already damaged the tyres of several cars.

“We plea with the community to bear with us as we solve their problems as the branch. We are also devising a plan to tackle youth unemployment. A lot of young people are not working, and something has to be done.

“It worries me to see young people loitering. I believe that they are using drugs because they are frustrated. If we can create jobs and give our youth working opportunities, crime will plummet.

“As political party members, we must strive to serve our communities, make sure people are getting their services and young people are working.

“Being unemployed affects your way of living. People become gangsters and commit crimes because of the unemployment plight.

“We aim to change that and save the lives of our community members, especially the youth,” said Swarts.
