The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Tania Campbell was among the many dignitaries who supported the family of Chris Hani at a wreath-laying in commemoration of the 29th anniversay of the SA Communist Party leader’s death, at the Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park, in Elsburg, today.

Chris Hani was assasinated on April 10, 1993, outside his home in Dawn Park, Boksburg.

He was accosted by a Polish far-right anti-communist immigrant named Janusz Waluś, who shot him as he stepped out of his car.

Waluś fled the scene but was soon arrested. He was seen leaving the crime scene by a woman driving past and a neighbour of Hani’s also witnessed the crime and later identified Waluś and the vehicle he was driving.

Clive Derby-Lewis, a senior Conservative Party MP and shadow minister for Economic Affairs at the time, who had lent Waluś his pistol, was also arrested for complicity in Hani’s murder. (source: Wikipedia).
