Her father had an impact on her wanting to become an entrepreneur.
Dimakatso Dlamini is willing to take her business to an international level by opening more showrooms across the world.
The 32-year-old entrepreneur from Boksburg makes an impressive range of made-to-measure curtains available in a wide selection of fabrics, colours, sizes, and patterns.
The owner of Katso Lux Curtains said that she fell in love with curtains at the age of 13 and her curtains remain budget-friendly without compromising on quality.
“Growing up, my mother was a person who liked to clean the house a bit too much; she would change the bedding, curtains and other household items frequently.
“Because I’m a tall girl, she would always ask me to help her hang the curtains for her. I got to learn about the different types of curtains, fabrics, designs, styles and more by helping my mom at home.
“I believe that curtains are an essential part of home décor and when I wasn’t satisfied with the quality of some of the curtains in the market, I decided to start my luxury curtain brand that aims to provide the highest quality furnishing fabrics at the most competitive prices,” said Dlamini.
The former Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) graduate, holding a diploma in public relations, said her father also had an impact on her wanting to become an entrepreneur.
“My father used to own a bakery so seeing him develop as an individual made me realise that only you can go far in life as long as you believe in yourself,” added Dlamini.
Dlamini as a wife and a mother of two highlighted that one thing she likes about Boksburg is that it is multi-cultural.
“I read a lot of books about entrepreneurs and managing time between work and family. I think my husband should also take the credit because he was the one who helped me with the capital.”
The SeSotho speaking woman explained that she wants to improve herself as a businesswoman.
“I am an entrepreneur at heart and seeing an idea like Katso Lux Curtains come to life, has inspired me to go even further.
“It is also great to contribute positively to the economy,” said Dlamini.
The business that started on March 17 last year, situated at 75 Rietfontein Road, launched a heritage collection. It includes the Basotho SeShweshwe, IsiNdebele, Isizulu and IsiXhosa fabrics.
“At Katso Lux Curtains, we’re of the firm belief that almost every window in your home should have curtains to add that ‘homely feel’. Curtains also truly make any room look larger, adds a pop of colour, and diffuse natural light. From double taped to pleated to blackout, we do them all,” explained Dlamini.
Dlamini said her long term goal is to see her business grow international, create employment for citizens and prioritise women empowerment through educational workshops.
“If you want to grow in the business, you have to start where you are and with what you have.”
