Vehicle testing is in full swing at Reiger Park
The Mobile Vehicle Testing Station will come back at Reiger Park on May 30.
MEC of Community Safety Faith Mazibuko led a testing session that offered motorists an opportunity to know if their vehicle’s brakes and emergency brakes are working efficiently, on May 20.
Mazibuko collaborated with Gauteng traffic police and Reiger Park police to initiate the Mobile Vehicle Testing Station (MVTS), which was parked next to the Reiger Park police station where they tested a variety of vehicles.
Mazibuko said they are planning to have another testing session on May 30 as she was not pleased with the turnout of vehicles on the day.
“We are trying to ensure cars are roadworthy and, to a larger extent, they are complying with the road standards of our country. Our service is free today, as we know most testing stations require a fee for a vehicle to be tested.
“We want motorists to be safe on the roads, that is why we brought this service to Reiger Park,” said Mazibuko.
Reiger Park Ward 34 councillor Edith Klassen joined the testing session.
“This is the most vital process in the transporting sector. It will help us to reduce accidents on our roads.
“I am encouraging motorists to come to the other testing session that we are going to have soon. This testing session didn’t go as planned, so want them to come in numbers to our next one,” said Klassen.
Mandla Khubheka (69), who has a school transport service, said he feels good with the whole testing process.
“My car has been tested. I know its faults now and I am planning to fix them. They are saving our lives, because as drivers we normally get behind the wheel but we don’t know whether we are driving a safe a car or not.
“They tested my car’s brakes and handbrake and they are all faulty. So I’m going to make a plan to fix them all,” said Khubheka.
