City of Ekurhuleni launches blue drop water quality campaign

The City has maintained its Blue Drop status, which is awarded by the National Department of Water and Sanitation for excellence in water quality management.

The MMC for Water, Energy and Sanitation Senzi Sibeko has launched the City’s Blue Drop Water Quality Campaign at Driefontein informal settlement in Delmore Park, Boksburg on May 31.

The launch follows the release of the 2022 Blue Drop Progress Report early this year that certifies the City’s water quality as having achieved excellent microbiological compliance and good chemical compliance.
According to the metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the City was also rated for its adequately aligned monitoring programmes. He stated that this indicates the City’s water may not pose health risks to the consumers.

As part of the Blue Drop Water Quality Campaign, Rand Water contributed 5000, 25-litre water bottles that will be donated across the city to ensure residents safely and conveniently store water.
MMC Sibeko announced that Driefontein informal settlement will soon be re-blocked and that will come with piped water to each dwelling to do away with the communal water taps.
“The metro continues its efforts to broaden the access to the City’s Blue Drop certified water. The aim is to ensure that each family has its own tap. However, residents are reminded of the responsibility to use water sparingly,” said Sibeko.

“The City has maintained its Blue Drop status, which is awarded by the National Department of Water and Sanitation for excellence in water quality management.”
The city will, through the Blue Drop Water Quality Campaign, visit various areas across Ekurhuleni to educate residents about the need to conserve water.
