Child protection is a 24-hour job for people working on the frontline.
It’s National Child Protection Week from May 29 to June 5.
This week is celebrated annually to raise awareness of the rights of children.
Amanda Coetzee, the founder of Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services, said one does not realise that child protection is a 24-hour job for people working on the frontline.
“Child abuse is increasing and places of safety are getting full. Furthermore, we’re seeing the negative impact Covid-19 had on the economy, which is resulting in people begging on the streets.
“We receive dozens of phone calls about mothers begging on the streets. The child can’t simply be taken away from the mother as neglect isn’t always evident. The mother sometimes doesn’t have anywhere to take their child,” said Amanda.
