Learners left stranded after fire guts eight classrooms at a Boksburg school
The Gauteng Department of Education GDE said it is working tirelessly to ensure that learning at the school, as well as the health and safety of learners, is not compromised due to this incident.
A blaze broke out on May 5 at Drommedaris Primary School, destroying eight foundation phase (Grade R – 3) classrooms and the school’s storeroom.
The furniture and other study material were destroyed.
The Gauteng Department of Education’s (GDE) spokesperson Steven Mabona said according to information gathered the SGB was informed of the fire at about 13:00 on Sunday.
“One of the school’s general assistants reported the incident and the local fire brigade managed to douse the fire,” said Mabona in a statement.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
All Grade R to 3 learners are not at school today (June 6). The GDE officials and SGB met at the school to devise a solution on how to accommodate the affected learners.
