Happy Pride Month
Pride Month is annually commemorated in June to honour the 1969 Stonewall riots and the efforts made to address issues faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) community. In light of this, Nico Visagie from Van Dyk, who is part of the LGBTIQ community, shared what Pride Month means to him.

In light of this, Nico Visagie from Van Dyk, who is part of the LGBTIQ community, shared what Pride Month means to him.
“Pride Month, for me, always has a special meaning in the LGBTIQ community as it gives us the freedom to express ourselves and remember those who have been fighting for LGBTIQ rights.
“Being a member of this community isn’t always easy as we are constantly judged and we are not always accepted by friends, family and even the community.
“We still have to fight for our rights to marry and simple things like adopting children or serving our country.
“I would like to take this opportunity to tell those who are afraid to come out as LGBTIQ members that they are not alone,” he said.
