City’s war on potholes tackles backlog

The scourge of potholes keeps city’s roads and storm water department crews and MMC busy filling dozens of potholes, as drivers try their best to dodge them.

The City of Ekurhuleni announced that over the past few weeks much has been done to address the potholes problem on the city’s roads.

It was reported that about 5 200m² of potholes have been patched so far.

Ekurhuleni MMC for Roads and Stormwater Alco Ngobese praised officials for clearing 65% of the potholes backlog in the city since the inception of the War on Potholes campaign.
He made the remarks during the campaign to patch potholes in Kempton Park on July 8 where he was also participating.

The campaign is part of the back-to-basics programme that seeks to enhance service delivery in the city.
“We have personnel on the ground attending to potholes across the city, and the campaign has gained momentum thanks to the financial injection of R285m for pothole repairs.
“While we have already identified the roads the team will target, we also urge residents to report potholes in their respective areas,” appealed Ngobese.

He requested motorists to be patient when they encounter city officials working on the roads, patching potholes.
