Tambo Memorial Baby Pack Network donates gift packs to babies
Tambo Memorial Baby Pack Network aids babies at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The Tambo Memorial Baby Pack Network donated Bags of Love and Hope at Tambo Memorial Hospital on July 9.
According to the director of Tambo Memorial Baby Pack Network, Sandra Law, they are donating these gift packs because there is a need to make a difference in society.
The packs comprised a canvas reusable bag, baby blanket, babygrow (0-3 months), baby vest, socks, beanie, a roll of cotton wool, Vaseline tub, baby soap, sanitary towels, disposable nappies and a 500ml bottle of water.
“The packs also include pamphlets from the Life Choices non-profit organisation and Pregnancy Crisis Centre. All the organisations are based in Benoni. The Pregnancy Crisis Centre offers pre-and post-birth counselling and support services to any mothers. We have also included a message of encouragement in the packs.
“This initiative was started by the late deacon Barbara Morrison in 2013 to solve the issue of children being born without clothes and toiletries, which has resulted in babies going home wrapped in a newspaper or a plastic bag,” said Law.
Law added that every mother deserves the dignity of taking her newborn baby home, dressed warmly and wrapped in a warm blanket.

“Most of the women we meet in our drives live in squatter camps. They lack resources, a partner and even a supportive structure.
“With our initiatives, we want to change that. We have donated 49 Bags of Love and Hope today, but on normal weeks we donate 50 to 80 packs. We gave the packs to the mothers at the Tambo Memorial Hospital’s maternity, neonatal and neonatal ICU wards.
“The high number of incidences of abandoned babies shows that many mothers feel overwhelmed and helpless.
Some groups have chosen us to be the recipients of their knitted items. Those organisations are Crazy Crochet Club, Claudette’s Yoga Knitters, Cosmos Old Age Home and Country Life.
“These organisations make beanies, socks, jerseys and blankets for our precious Tambo Memorial Hospital babies. They are all included in our Bags of Love and Hope.
“St Dunstan’s College has participated in our Youth Day Packing Project. They are regular donors of blankets, clothing and sanitary products that are included in our packs.”
