FNB collaborates with ECD centre forum for a good cause

More blankets will be knitted by the elderly people and given to other ECD centres in Ekurhuleni.

FNB collaborated with Kidz World Forum to donate blankets to various ECD centres in Ekurhuleni on July 14.

This initiative, part of FNB’s volunteer programme, took place at Delmore Gardens. The volunteer programme was formed by FNB as part of its corporate social investment projects.

Twenty-four blankets were handed over to the ECD centres of Boksburg, Windmill Park, Delmore Gardens, Ramaphosa, Groeneweide and Reiger Park.

The chairperson of Kidz World Forum, Veronica Nunn, said they formed a relationship with FNB to make a difference in society.

“We have 30 ECD centres that are in Kidz World Forum. We have identified the centres that are struggling and those centres are the recipients of the blankets today. The blankets were knitted by the elderly people in Masibambaneni Old Age Centre, based in Delmore Park.

“FNB donated the square structured wools, sewing machines and crochet hooks used to make the blankets.”
Nunn added that she is thankful to FNB for making this drive possible.

Nolitha Mpahsu said the elderly in her organisation was happy to knit the blankets.

“We have programmes that keep the elderly active. The elderly took the opportunity in the programmes to knit blankets. “They did it because they also want to give back to their communities. Our programmes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”

Dorothy Rossouw who was part of the group of old people that knitted the blankets said they started knitting the blankets early in June.

“It was exciting for me to sit with the needles and crochet hooks and knit the blankets because I had not done that in a while. I enjoyed the experience,” said Rossouw.

Rossouw added she would not have traded the experience for anything else.
