Various organisations collaborated to celebrate legacy of Nelson Mandela
A lot of children received a soup, bread and sweets in Ramaphosa.
Thusang Community Development NPO in partnership with the Reiger Park SAPS, CPF, Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre, Unilever, Mr Sweets and Boxer cleaned the streets of Ramaphosa on July 18.
They also offered children living in Ramaphosa bread, soup and sweets. The founder of Thusang Community Development, Lufuno Mudzuli, said they did a charity drive in Ramaphosa to celebrate the legacy and birthday of Mandela.
“This is our first time as an NPO taking part in this initiative. We couldn’t take part in the 67 minutes last year because of Covid-19.
“We decided to clean the streets of Ramaphosa, which are Fisheagle and Impangele. We noticed they are dirty. We also offered food to children in the area because so many families are suffering.
“We actually honour Mandela every week through our soup kitchens. Today we are reviving the spirit of Ubuntu since its Mandela Day. We believe that cleanliness is close to godliness. Mandela left a spirit of humanity and it needs to flow through us as South Africans.
“I would like to thank every organisation that made this charity drive possible today,” said Mudzuli.
He said they are planning to host a similar charity drive next year on Mandela Day.
