Beware of bogus driver’s licence website

The City of Ekurhuleni informs the public of a reported driver’s and learner’s licence scam, which promises people free licences should an individual register on their fraudulent website.

The scam is circulating on various social media platforms through the publication of fake adverts to lure the unsuspecting victims.

Residents are urged not to respond to these false advertisements.

The city’s processes when applying for a driving licence have not changed, and are as follows:

How do make a booking for a learner’s licence?

• Go to https://online.natis.gov.za to make a booking

• Register your profile

• Make a booking at a Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) where you would like to be tested

• You must pay for your pre-booking at the testing station at which the pre-booking was made.

• The payment must be made within three days from making the pre-booking.

• You can do the eye test on the day of the payment at the DLTC or go to a recognised eye specialist where a certificate will be issued.

• If the date and time (booking) you prefer is not available, it could be that it has been already allocated as the system is live or the testing station is fully booked for the date and time you prefer. You can either wait until booking timeslots become available or try a different testing station.

How do I obtain a driving licence?

Once one obtains a learner’s licence, you can apply for your driving licence at your nearest DLTC.

Here’s what you need to do:

• Provide your Identity Document (ID)

• Provide a valid learner’s licence

• Complete form DL1 available from DLTC,

• Provide two black and white ID photographs

• Provide the prescribed fee

• Using the K53 method, you will be required to pass a driving test that incorporates a yard test (parking manoeuvres) and a road test

• If you pass the driving test, you will be issued with a temporary driving licence that will be replaced with a permanent driving licence within six months.

The City of Ekurhuleni has reserved Wednesdays for pensioners to renew their driving licences without having to make an online appointment. Pensioners can simply walk into any of Ekurhuleni’s Driving Licence Testing Centres and renew their licences.
