Water system needs time to recover following outage

At the time of publication Dlamini was unable to give an indication as to when services will resume.

Taps in Benoni, Boksburg and Brakpan have run dry following a fault at Rand Water’s Mapleton Booster Station on July 12, says the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the utility has confirmed they repaired the switch that tripped and operations at the facility have resumed.

“Despite the latest development, the water supply system has been completely drained. It will therefore take a couple of days for water pressure and supply to normalise, especially in high-lying areas.

“We are monitoring the situation while doing our utmost to maintain the water supply.

“Roving water tankers have been deployed to the affected areas and will only be withdrawn upon the normalisation of supply.”

Dlamini said further developments would be communicated through the city’s digital platforms.
