Postbank apologises for social grants delay

The bank said its working around the clock to resolve the issue.

SASSA beneficiaries expressed frustration after they could not access their payments on September 5 because of system glitches.

In a statement issued by Postbank, it informed its recipients that it was experiencing intermittent technical issues which were affecting some beneficiaries’ ability to withdraw their funds from ATMs and retailers.
The bank said its technical challenges have also affected some SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 withdrawals within retailers. They are working around the clock to resolve the issue.

“Postbank understands the inconvenience and challenges this technical issue poses to our valued SASSA grant customers.
“We apologise unreservedly to all our customers. Postbank will advise as soon as we resolve the technical issue,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the bank has highlighted that social grant payment transactions via SASSA gold cards within Post Office branches are processing normally and not affected by the issues.
According to a resident, Johannes Mahlangu, it is sad seeing senior citizens stranded while running to banks and retailers without any success of payment.
Mahlangu said they did not inform them of such delays.
