Ekurhuleni mayor leads 2024 Back-to-School campaign
The government also brought along dental and holistic health services for the voluntary screening of learners.
As schools reopened on Wednesday, the mayor of Ekurhuleni Sivuyile Ngodwana and his team of MMCs criss-crossed the city doing spot checks to ensure that the 2024 academic year got off to a flying start without any hindrances.
According to the mayoral office, this was part of the Gauteng provincial government’s annual Back-to-School programme which sees the premier and MECs spread throughout the province to motivate learners and ensure that the start of the academic year is flawless.
Provincial and local leaders visited various schools including early childhood development centres. In Ekurhuleni alone, six schools and four daycare centres were visited.
The common message delivered by all the leaders to both learners and educators was strong discipline in education and pursuing excellence.
“You need to fully commit to class attendance and begin working hard as early as now so that you lay a firm foundation for your final examination at the end of the year. You must study daily to ensure that you achieve excellence,” said Ngodwana during a visit to one of the schools.”
Meanwhile, the government also brought along dental and holistic health services for the voluntary screening of learners.
This was to encourage the young people to make use of the free health services available in their communities with the belief that a ‘healthy body harbours a healthy mind’.
