Hope SA Foundation launches free eye testing programme

The Hope SA Foundation is committed to addressing eye health by providing free eye testing and affordable eyewear to those in need.

Hope SA Foundation recently launched a free eye testing programme aimed at addressing vision impairment and promoting eye health in under-served communities in and around Boksburg.

The programme, which was initiated by the foundation’s Mobile Healthcare Unit, saw optometrist Jonathan Brand conducting comprehensive eye examinations for both adults and children.

Leveraging state-of-the-art equipment, Brand provided thorough assessments to identify vision issues and potential eye conditions.

Namiritha Sivanker, founder of Hope SA, said, the programme is part of the foundation’s holistic approach to community health, and it is dedicated to ensuring access to vision correction for all individuals.

“The foundation is providing free eyewear for children in need of glasses to support their academic and personal development.

“Additionally, for adults requiring glasses, we are seeking sponsors to assist in subsidising the cost of eyewear, making it accessible at a nominal fee of R500.

“We believe that clear vision is a fundamental right for every individual, regardless of their socio-economic background.

“Through our programme, we aim to empower individuals with the gift of sight, enabling them to thrive and participate fully in their communities,” said Sivanker.

Sivanker said the Mobile Healthcare Unit will continue to visit schools, old age homes, and impoverished communities in Boksburg and surrounding areas to provide essential eye care services.
