Broughton victorious at league meeting
She won the U8 girls’ 1km race in 04:11.

Young Dominique Broughton claimed top honours when she won the girls’ U8 1km race in the sixth Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) cross-country league meeting in Westonaria on July 6.
The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) junior runner won in 04:11, six seconds ahead of second-placed Dineo Nzuza of the East Athletic Club (EAC).
With only two league meetings left before the provincial championships in August, the local runners displayed good form and pulled off incredible performances.

The day began with the BNAC’s Carmen Kotze claiming her third podium finish in her third race of the season. The youngster finished the U13 3km race in third place in 12:22, and her teammate, Mila Russouw (12:10), was also third in the U11 race.
Likhona Kubayi of the EAC rounded up the podium in the U9 girls’ 2km in 09:20, while Northerns’ Danè Rudolph was fourth. Rudolph’s teammate, Claire Zillen, was seventh in the same event.
The Benoni High Athletic Club (BHAC)’s Emma Hickley was in the top 10 in the U14 girls’ 4km race. She crossed the line in an incredible 17:20, and Cherese Nel of Northerns was also seventh in the U16 girls’ 4km.

Azelia Zitha of the EAC finished second in the U17 girls’ 4km in 16:10, while Nqobile Maseko of Northerns was sixth.
Bronwyn Nel ran another brilliant race after winning the junior women’s 6km. She breasted the tape in 23:33. Gift Nkosi (24:42) of the EAC was third in the race.
Kate van Jaarsveld was on the podium again after finishing the sub-veteran women’s 4km second in 20:40.
Boys

There were wins for Siyanda Madlabane and Bokamoso Nonyane, while Matthew Pietrouisti and Matthew Mackay claimed podium spots in their events.
Madlabane won the U13 boys’ 4km race, while Nonyane claimed victory in the U10 boys’ 2km race. Pietrouisti (10:38) was second in the U12 boys’ 3km, and Mackay (06:36) was third in the junior men’s 2km race.

Joshua Broughton (11:16) was fourth in his race, while Richard Henry Hamman (04:08) was fourth in the U8 boys 1km. Kaden Price finished the U9 boys’ 2km race in fifth position, and Thabiso Ntombela was fourth in the U13 boys’ 4km race.
Kwando Longoza of the EAC was third in the senior men’s 4km after finishing the race in 12:39. Avuma Pheza won the junior men’s 8km in 26:21, and Kevin Hickley (27:55) of the BHAC was seventh in the same race.
The seventh league meeting is on July 20 in Germiston.
