Harrison takes coach of year gong
He started tumbling at the club at the age of five before going through the ranks and becoming a coach.
James Harrison is the Eagles Tumbling Club’s coach of the year.
He was honoured during the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony at the John Barrable Hall on November 2.
A long-serving Eagles member, Harrison started tumbling at the club as a five-year-old, beginning as a “shy and quiet little chap” and being awarded the prestigious most improved C trophy in 2006.
“His dedication and progress earned him a promotion to coach in 2007, where he went on to achieve several medals and was awarded his provincial colours,” said club founder Cindy McCall-Peat.
Harrison, who recently got engaged, left the Eagles to attend high school at CBC Boksburg but missed the sport so much that he returned to coach after matriculating.
“His goal was to give the children the same confidence he had gained as a young tumbler at the club. Now, he’s a fantastic coach who makes all the young children feel at ease and builds their confidence through his teachings,” added McCall-Peat.
The coach was promoted to train the competitive elementary tumblers, and under his guidance, McCall-Peat said the children had improved a lot.
“The children have excelled in their respective categories and age groups thanks to his passion and unwavering encouragement. Congratulations, coach. Keep inspiring and leading with the same energy and passion.”
McCall-Peat congratulated all the tumblers who received awards during the ceremony.
