Qhubeka AC celebrates achievements at annual awards ceremony

The evening showcased inspiring achievements, from the Comeback Runner of the Year to the top overall performer.

Qhubeka Athletic Club (AC) hosted a lively awards ceremony on December 6 to honour its dedicated members for exceptional contributions.

The event, attended by club members and supporters, recognised individuals across various categories, highlighting their achievements in running and community involvement.

Coach Benzi Tenza opened the ceremony with a heartfelt appreciation for the committee members, stating, “Each committee member received a certificate and a small gift as a token of our gratitude.

“We truly appreciate them for going the extra mile.

“We want to recognise our members for their hard work; they have done their best and we are proud of them.”

Awarded winners

The awards acknowledged Comrades Marathon runners and novices, showcasing the diverse talents within the club. Some of the standout winners are:

• Volunteer of the year in recognising outstanding contributions to the club: Ntonto Baloyi (21)

• Club builder of the year for those who assist with various club activities: Ntonto (35)

• Prep member of the year in honouring outstanding performance by a prep member: Nonosi Mmamakoko (32)

• Comeback runner of the year – celebrating individuals who have overcome injury or adversity: Mdu Vilakazi (14)

• Inspirational runner of the year for demonstrating dedication, perseverance or passion: Kabelo Mwahla (13)

• Runner of the year, top overall performer: Mohammed

• Coach Benzi’s award presented to an athlete exhibiting exceptional dedication and commitment to training: Simphiwe

Special recognitions
In addition to individual awards, several members received special recognitions for their contributions to race organisation and community engagement:
• Race director recognition: Kshira Jaggoo

• Most physically involved: Sincedile Mngese

• Race marketing: Ntsiki Mbatha

“This event celebrated athletic accomplishments and reinforced a sense of community within Qhubeka AC.

“The awards served as proof of the hard work and dedication displayed by all members throughout the year, highlighting the club’s commitment to excellence in sport and community service,” said Tenza.
