Boksburg AC member shares why you can’t miss the Colgate Road Race

The Colgate Road Race, hosted by the Boksburg Athletic Club, has earned its reputation as one of the most exciting events on South Africa’s running calendar.
With a rich history and a long-standing partnership with Colgate, this annual race attracts runners from all corners of the country.
Suzette de Gouveia, a member of the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC), described it as “one fascinating event you do not want to miss”.
Scheduled for May 4 at the Boksburg Stadium, the Colgate Road Race offers something for everyone, whether you’re an elite athlete or a casual runner. Participants can choose between three distances: a challenging 32km race, a 15km run, or a fun 5km option.
The event is particularly popular among Comrades Marathon runners, as it serves as an ideal preparation race just weeks before the iconic ultra-marathon.
Suzette de Gouveia recently competed in the Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) race, finishing with impressive results: an overall position of 204 out of 1 130 participants, 22nd in her category out of 239 runners, and 45th among women out of 495 competitors. Her finish time was an admirable 02:01:06.
Reflecting on her experience at BNAC, she praised its fun atmosphere but emphasised that the Colgate Race promises to be equally enjoyable and rewarding, encouraging everyone to join in.
She said the Colgate Road Race is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of community and fitness.
“The first 7 000 entrants receive goodie bags and T-shirts, while medals are awarded to the first 3 000 finishers in the 32km and 15km races. The event also includes water stations and marshalling points manned by volunteers to ensure smooth operations throughout the day.”

Gouveia went on to say that participants can expect scenic routes through Boksburg South, Parkrand, and parts of Boksburg East.
“The race is designed to accommodate runners of all levels, making it an excellent choice for those new to road running or seasoned athletes aiming for personal bests”.
De Gouveia’s enthusiasm for the Colgate Race highlights its appeal as a must-attend event for anyone passionate about running or looking to challenge themselves. Whether you’re aiming for a podium finish or simply want to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow runners, this race offers an unforgettable experience.
