Two alleged cash-in-transit suspects die in Dawn Park
Police recovered an AK-47 and a revolver, linking the suspects to major cases in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Two suspects believed to be involved in a string of violent cash-in-transit (CIT) heists died during a shootout with police on May 17 in Dawn Park, Boksburg.
The incident unfolded after KwaZulu-Natal police, supported by national crime intelligence units, tracked the suspects to a property in the township.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said in a statement that the operation was the culmination of an intensive investigation into a recent CIT heist in KwaZulu-Natal, where thugs attacked a security van and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
“The suspects, believed to be part of a larger syndicate, had been under surveillance as they moved between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces. When law enforcement moved in on May 17, a gun battle erupted between the police and the suspects.”
The battle resulted in the two suspects being fatally wounded. None of the officers recorded injuries.
Police found an AK-47 and a revolver, suspected of being used in past crimes.

Masondo confirmed the deceased were suspects, linked to multiple cases of cash-in-transit robberies, armed robbery and murder in both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
“We considered these suspects highly dangerous, as they were among the most wanted for CIT and violent crimes in the country.
“The scene remained cordoned off for several hours as forensic teams processed evidence and investigators continued their search for additional suspects who may be connected to the criminal network.”
Police hunt for CIT heist suspects
In another story, police are still hunting the gang of robbers who, on March 19, ambushed a cash-in-transit van along Van Dyk Road in Boksburg, where they made off with an undisclosed amount of money, after shooting a security guard in the leg.
Police said the latest incident in Dawn Park comes amid a surge in cash-in-transit heists in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, with police intensifying efforts to dismantle syndicates responsible for these violent crimes.
