Residents give Delmore Gardens a facelift
This will in turn see the community enjoying the fruits.
A group of residents from Delmore Gardens recently took matters into their own hands when they made the area look more attractive to visitors and potential investors.
One of the event organisers, Charona Louw, said the community initiative was their way of honouring Nelson Mandela’s life and keeping his legacy alive through initiatives aimed at uplifting the community.
The team planted over 150 flowers and about 20 trees, including fruit and shade trees. They refurbished the entrance sign at the gateway and cleaned up the area.

“There is not a lot of service delivery happening in our community, so we decided to do it ourselves,” said Louw.
“The aim is to make sure that when people enter our community they fall in love with our area and want to be here.”

Why trees?
“Trees are crucial in our lives and the environment, as they protect us and give us life. They improve the air quality by absorbing air pollution and capturing carbon dioxide, provide oxygen and shade, and support wildlife.
“Among the planted trees were fruit and shade trees. This will in turn see the community enjoying the fruits,” said Louw.
