Mini-cricket seminar celebrates 43 years of nurturing talent
Easterns and Cricket South Africa, in partnership with KFC, marked over four decades of youth cricket development at the 43rd anniversary seminar, highlighting the dedication of coaches and teachers who shape the stars of tomorrow.
Easterns and Cricket South Africa (CSA), in partnership with KFC, celebrated the 43rd anniversary of the KFC Mini-Cricket programme on August 15 by hosting the Easterns KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Seminar at the Holiday Inn in Boksburg.
The event recognised the programme’s tremendous achievements and its crucial role in developing young cricket talent across South Africa.
Thato Moagi, president of Easterns Cricket Union, spoke passionately about the invaluable contribution of the teachers and coaches behind the scenes.
“The true champions are our dedicated teachers and coaches who voluntarily give their time, energy, and heart to this game. They are the backbone of the programme, ensuring that children have the opportunity to train, grow, and play matches at school.”
Moagi emphasised the need to celebrate and acknowledge these volunteers.
“Their tireless efforts often go unnoticed, but they are the foundation upon which our cricketing future is built. We owe them our deepest gratitude for their commitment to nurturing young talent.”
He also highlighted the broader impact of the programme beyond just cricket skills.
“Through Mini-Cricket, children learn discipline, teamwork, and confidence, qualities that stay with them for life. This programme is about more than just the sport; it’s about shaping well-rounded individuals.”

The seminar also served as a chance to share best practices and strengthen partnerships within the cricket community.
“Collaboration between coaches, schools, and administrators is key to sustaining and growing these opportunities for our youth,” Moagi said.
Julius Maziya, Eastern Cricket Mini-Cricket provincial co-ordinator, was in attendance, lending his support, while the seminar was expertly hosted by Smash Afrika, bringing energy and engagement to the proceedings.
As Easterns and CSA marked 43 years of KFC Mini-Cricket, Moagi reaffirmed their dedication to investing in the next generation of cricketers.
“We celebrate the past, but remain focused on nurturing tomorrow’s stars. This programme is proof of the power of passion, commitment, and community in building South African cricket.”
