Police renew appeal for information about missing Cason man

His family and the police are as each day goes by growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Police in Boksburg have renewed an appeal for information about 38-year-old Mighty Phalane, who vanished from his home in Cason in March.

Phalane reportedly left home on March 1, telling his mother he was visiting extended family in Limpopo. However, information suggests he instead travelled to the Angelo informal settlement.

When his mother called the family in Limpopo to check if he had arrived, they said he had not. She then reported him missing to Boksburg SAPS, who registered a missing person docket and launched an investigation.
Five days later, the mother received a call from the Dunswart Taxi Rank, informing her that a bag belonging to her son had been found in a taxi travelling between Angelo informal settlement and Dunswart.

Police investigations revealed that Phalane had arrived at the taxi rank in Angelo and placed his bag on a passenger seat but disappeared while the taxi waited for additional passengers.
At the time of his disappearance, Phalane was wearing a navy-blue jersey, sky-blue track pants, and blue All Star sneakers when he was last seen at the taxi rank near Boksburg North Clinic.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Hlatshwayo on 076 538 9853 or 010 497 9907.
Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba said police have no leads to explain Phalane’s disappearance. “Our detectives investigated all information taken from witness statements, but we still don’t have the answers we need,” she said.
