Riley defends derby title
She finished her round-off in 39.32 seconds to win the title.
Local showjumper Jaimie Riley successfully defended her national Pony Rider 1.10m derby title at the Toyota SA 2025 South African Derby at Kyalami Park in Midrand on October 4.
Riding her superstar pony, Sunny Park Scooby Doo, the rider set a blistering 39.32 seconds jump-off time in the final round, which left the rest of the field on her heels.
“Jaimie showed incredible determination and precision. It was a masterclass in skill, courage and composure under pressure,” said Jaimie’s mom, Nicola Sime-Riley.

In a tight competition, which saw Jaimie and Oliver Neill each qualify two ponies in the jump-off, it was Neill who gave the Benonian a challenge, finishing second with her gelding, My Irish Boy, after posting a quick clear in 40.70 seconds.
Riding Sillogue Tally on her second mount, Neill accumulated four penalties to finish third overall.
Melua Carina Lamberti and her 19-year-old mare, Blue Steel Equestrian’s Assegai Rimanda, finished third after accumulating 12 faults. Jaimie and her 16-year-old gelding, Cornerstone Red Square, finished fifth overall after an unlucky dismount.

“A heartfelt thank you to Toyota SA for their support, and to the Kyalami Park Club, Heather Mpofu, and her team for their countless hours behind the scenes to pull off such an amazing and memorable event.
“Well done to Jaimie and all the talented young riders who made the 1.10m Pony Rider Derby such an exciting highlight on the showjumping calendar. The future of the sport is certainly bright,” added Nicola.
