EGBA youngsters claim IPT title

The EGBA was represented by two teams in the competition. The A team grabbed a gold, while the B side finished eighth.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association’s (EGBA) U17A team clinched the interprovincial title during the national tournament in Bloemfontein on October 8.

The team, coached by doubles sensation Amy Ackerman, included the region’s top youngsters – Ricardo Viagrio, Jordan van Tonder, Yushi Jia, Ke-You Chang, Chelsea Orr, Hue-Gin Chen, and Refiloe Tshabalala – and brushed aside 11 other sides on their march to the title.

“Congratulations to the EGBA A team, who won the U17 interprovincial tournament. We are proud of you — you all played your hearts out.

“Thank you to our coach, Amy Ackerman, for her tireless support, mentorship, and guidance. Also, thanks to our team manager, Leo Chen, for his coordination, support, and calm demeanour,” the EGBA said in a statement.

The depth of talent saw the EGBA enter two teams in the competition. The B side claimed eighth place to cap off a good tournament.

The B team included Robyn Brothers, Daniel Smith, Hue-Lin Chen, Joshua Nundkisun, Kamohelo Tombakwayo, Vishakh Kunjupilla, Kagiso Seloana, and Jack Loots.
