Inventor to exhibit full-scale jet prototype

Windmill Park inventor Zephanias Sithole will showcase his ambitious aircraft concept, the Fly Pootezeff Aerospace ZX, in a public exhibition outside his home on November 27 and 28.

For the 25-year-old, the event is the culmination of years of hard work, learning and persistence in the face of limited resources and support. Sithole built the prototype entirely in his backyard using aluminium and fibreglass, and the 15-seater aircraft also features an image of former president Nelson Mandela along its side.

Recently, he upgraded the interior, hoping the enhancements would attract serious buyers or investors to bring the project to life.
“This exhibition is a chance to show people what can happen when passion and persistence come together. I started this with no professional support, learning through books and trial and error, and now I want the community to see that dreams are possible anywhere,” Sithole said.

Despite calls and enquiries from potential investors over the years, Sithole has yet to receive a concrete offer. Still, he remains determined to share his vision and encourage others to pursue their own ideas.
“I want young people to see that even if you come from a place where resources are limited, you can create something extraordinary. Don’t wait for someone to give you permission to dream. Start now, start small and keep going,” he said.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the rare opportunity to explore the prototype up close, see the details of its design and understand the effort that went into bringing it to life. Alongside the display, Sithole is offering the intellectual property for sale. These include the design files, concept documentation and the rights to the Fly Pootezeff name, providing an opportunity for someone with the resources to further develop it.

“This project is bigger than one person. It’s about inspiring a generation to believe in themselves. I hope anyone who comes to see it feels that spark, that motivation to chase their own ideas, no matter the obstacles,” he added.

Sithole also hopes the exhibition will start conversations about supporting local innovation, mentorship and opportunities for young inventors in under-resourced communities.
“Dreams don’t have to wait for perfect conditions. The aircraft started in my backyard and if I can do it, anyone can take that first step toward making their ideas real,” he said.

The exhibition will take place outside his home, 4906 Litswele Street, Windmill Park, Ext 9, and the public is invited.
