Local NPO to launch pregnancy workshops to guide expectant moms
This March, The Urban Ruins is hosting weekly Saturday sessions to guide and support expectant mothers, offering education on every stage of pregnancy.
The Urban Ruins community-centred initiative is appealing to the public for donations as it prepares to host a series of events for pregnant mothers throughout March.
Every Saturday, the organisation will welcome expectant mothers for educational and supportive sessions, guiding them through their pregnancies in a nurturing environment.
Clayton Viljoen, the spokesperson for The Urban Ruins, said they welcome all donations and emphasised how crucial community support is for the programme’s success.
“We encourage everyone who can contribute, whether financially or through resources, to help us make these sessions meaningful for the mothers who need them most,” Viljoen said.
The sessions, from 10:00 to 14:00 every Saturday, will provide comprehensive guidance for expectant mothers, especially first-time moms.
“Participants will learn about the stages of pregnancy, key health considerations and what to watch out for along the way. The programme also emphasises practical advice, giving moms the confidence to safely navigate pregnancy.”

The Urban Ruins will also host baby showers for underprivileged mothers attending the programme.
“These celebrations aim to provide essential baby supplies, support and encouragement, ensuring that even mothers facing financial hardships feel cared for and celebrated.”
Viljoen said the initiative is about more than education.
“Our goal is to create a supportive space where mothers can share experiences, feel empowered and gain the confidence they need during one of the most important times of their lives,” he said.
Community members are encouraged to contribute in any way they can. Donations of money, baby items, maternity essentials or educational materials are welcome. To donate, contact The Urban Ruins on 081 747 0833 or Cviljoen@urbanruins.co.za.
