Nibs to celebrate 60th birthday with 'Back to My Roots` gig in Benoni

Acclaimed South African acoustic guitarist Nibs van der Spuy is set to return to his hometown of Benoni for a special one-off performance on April 24, to celebrate his 60th birthday.
Nibs’s musical journey began over four decades ago while attending Benoni High School.
“I picked up my dad’s old nylon string guitar in 1980 and started teaching myself from a Beatles book. I was instantly hooked and began performing my own songs as early as 1982,” he recalls.
During his school years, he formed a band called “Paradise” with classmates, writing original songs and winning local talent contests.
Reflecting on those formative years, Nibs shares, “I hold those early days in Benoni close to my heart because life was full of possibilities, and we dreamed big. I still remember how to play some of those innocent and beautiful songs.”
Now residing in Portugal, Nibs runs a successful cycling touring company, Vera Cruz Cycling Tours, where he takes small groups on incredible cycling adventures through the picturesque rural landscapes.
However, he is thrilled to return to his roots, walk the familiar streets of his old suburb, and perform at one of his favourite venues, Bohemia, just a stone’s throw from Benoni High.
