WIN! Atlasville resident's emotional struggle translate into his first novel

It is a story of endurance, humanity and the fragile light that can still be found in dark places.

Tokkie Nel, a local entrepreneur and author from Atlasville, Boksburg, has released his debut novel, Whispers of Normandy, a historical fiction story set against the final collapse of Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

While the novel is grounded in the brutality and chaos of war, its deeper message reaches far beyond the battlefield.
Whispers of Normandy explores trauma, loss, courage and the quiet battles many people face within themselves.

For Tokkie, the book is deeply personal.

He wrote it during his own struggle with depression, and what began as a war novel became something far more meaningful. The writing process became a way of surviving, reflecting and giving shape to emotions that are often difficult to express.

At its core, the novel speaks to those fighting silent wars of their own.
It is for people carrying grief, depression, heartbreak or invisible wounds that may not be seen by the outside world.

Through the story, Tokkie hopes readers will not only be drawn into a powerful historical setting but also find reassurance, meaning, and hope.

The title reflects both the physical war in Normandy and the emotional echoes that remain long after the conflict ends.
