Three Kids Haven youths on the path to a bright future
The collaborative relationship with the organisation highlights the potential when young people are given the opportunity to be seen and heard.
For the past 18 months, Kids Haven’s Pathways Programme has been shaping the future of eager youths and AutoZone has stepped up to enrich their journey.
The programme is a holistic initiative designed to support young people as they navigate the transition from school into further training, education or employment.
It recognises that many young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, face barriers that make it difficult to enter the workforce or pursue further study.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, the programe meets each participant where they are, combining practical skills development with digital skills training, psychosocial support, counselling, and ongoing follow-up support even after the formal sessions have drawn to a close.

Barriers such as a lack of transport, food insecurity, and limited exposure to opportunities are actively addressed through support structures that help participants stay present and engaged throughout the 12-week programme.
In September last year, AutoZone heeded the organisation’s call, offering 12-month learnerships to three Pathways participants.
“One of the youths is based at our Randburg branch and has settled in very well.
“Supported by a team that has really embraced his development, he continues to grow in confidence and capability,” said marketing manager, Krystle Stewien
“Two of the youths have found their feet in the automotive industry at our Benoni branch. Their positive attitudes and consistency have made them a welcome part of the team, and their progress so far has been encouraging.
Stewien continued by saying that the collaborative relationship with the organisation highlights the potential when young people are given the opportunity to be seen and heard.
“During a recent Pathways event, held at Kids Haven, we once again met youths wanting to grow beyond their circumstances, striving to unlock their full potential,” she said.
“One young man’s passion for photography has already opened the door to future collaborations at AutoZone events. There are also plans to explore mentorship opportunities for some of the youth who have recently entered the workforce.”
