An all-female team of police officers from the Boksburg SAPS manned a roadblock on August 30 as part of an anti-crime operation.
During the law enforcement activity, called Operation Basadi, the team of 17 officers, made up of members of the detective branch, Vispol unit and CPF patrollers, conducted the first phase of the operation on the corner of Trichardts and Kingfisher roads, where they stopped and searched cars.
According to the spokesperson of Boksburg SAPS, Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba, they initiated the operation to show the community that female officers can protect them and enforce law.
“We also used the opportunity to hand-out safety tips and GBV awareness pamphlets. The second phase of the operation was conducted on the corner of Atlas Road and Commissioner Street, which is a smash and grab hotspot.
“We offered safety tips to motorists and urged them to be cautious by not displaying anything valuable in their cars. The operation then moved to Angelo informal settlement where officers addressed the community about GBV, sexual assault, missing children and illegal mining activities in the area.
“Operation Basadi was established to celebrate women in uniform and was the conclusion of our Women’s Month activities. We will hold another Operation Basadi in the future as such operations are effective in fighting crime,” concluded Ledwaba.
Boksburg SAPS station commander Colonel Matshedeso Mbele also took part in the operation.
