Two cops leave Boksburg North SAPS

Captain Diko plans to become a pastor, while Sergeant Lewaba dreams of becoming a magistrate.

The Boksburg North SAPS recently bade farewell to two long-serving detectives, Captain Tembuxolo Diko and Sergeant Frans Ledwaba, as they set sail for new adventures.

Diko, who wore the badge with pride for 39 years, started his career at the Diepkloof SAPS in 1985. He climbed the ranks from constable to warrant officer while working there.

In 2004, Diko spread his wings to begin working at the Boksburg North SAPS detective branch and became a captain in 2016.

Diko said his career highlight is learning a lot from being a police officer.

“I learnt to maintain law and order, live in discipline, face my challenges and work in hardship. I also had to figure out to work with the resources available to me,” the Leondale resident added.

Diko plans to become a pastor in the future.

His advice to the younger generation: “You have to be disciplined and focused. It’s also important to respect your duties.”

Meanwhile, Ledwaba (41) grew up interested in saving the country from criminal elements.

“I have always wanted to be part of those assisting to reduce crime. I was concerned about crimes against women and children and all kinds of abuse,” said Ledwaba.

The Delmore Gardens resident started working at the Boksburg North SAPS as a student in 2007 and became a constable in 2009. He was promoted to sergeant in 2019.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, Sergeant Frans Ledwaba, Captain Francois Zylstra (group commander), Captain Tembuxolo Diko and Boksburg North SAPS detective branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Vernon Chetty.

In his career, he was a sector manager and worked as a communication officer, and in the Social Crime Prevention Unit.

He was also transferred to the detectives section, where he was an investigating officer for two years before leaving the force.

The highlights of his career include working directly with schools doing crime awareness and safer schools programmes.

Furthermore, Ledwaba earned a nomination as the top cop of Ekurhuleni in 2011.

“Another proud moment of my career was when I recently got appointed as an officer dealing with GBV cases. We saw a reduction in that in our policing area.”

His advice to the youth: “The sky is the limit, and you do not need to limit yourself in life.”

Ledwaba is in his final year of studying for his LLB degree through Unisa. He plans to become a prosecutor and then a magistrate.

The Boksburg North SAPS station commander wished the officers well.

Mngomezulu said it’s going to be difficult to replace Diko.

The station commander added that Ledwaba was hard-working, committed and always went the extra mile.

These officers’ last day at the station was March 28, and a farewell function was held at the detective branch on April 5.
