VIDEO: Police confirm two by-standers were killed in Dawn Park CIT robbery

Police are urging the community to remain vigilant of their surroundings.

Police have confirmed that two bystanders were shot and killed during a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery on Barry Marais Road in Dawn Park this afternoon (September 1).

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, it is reported that a cash vehicle was rammed from behind by a silver Mercedes-Benz, causing the truck to overturn onto a Quantum minibus taxi carrying seven occupants.

“Five of the passengers sustained injuries and received medical treatment, while the other two escaped unharmed,” said Nevhuhulwi.

Approximately eight suspects then bombed the cash vehicle and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

“Gunshots were exchanged between the suspects and members of a nearby security company who responded to the incident,” Nevhuhulwi added.

Two bystanders were caught in the crossfire and declared dead on the scene.

Police have urged members of the public not to approach scenes of CIT robberies or attempt to collect money scattered from the vehicles, as this poses serious danger.
