Suspect arrested in connection with mass shooting in Reiger Park
Police investigations into the Reiger Park shooting are ongoing.
The police in Reiger Park have confirmed that they have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the mass shooting that claimed the lives of six people and left three others injured on the evening of November 1.
The shootings occurred at around 18:50 across several streets in the area, including William Street, Stanbury Road, Regent Street, and Martin du Preez Street.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that police apprehended the suspect on the night of November 3, following an intensive investigation by the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit (AGU).
He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on November 5.
Provincial commissioner commends swift action
Acting provincial commissioner Major General Fred Kekana praised the unit for its quick response, and thanked the community for assisting the investigators.
“From our engagements with you, we can see that you have heard our plea to cooperate and work with the police to rid our communities of criminal elements,” said Kekana.
He encouraged residents to continue sharing information that could help the police dismantle gangs and other criminal networks operating in the East Rand.
In a separate operation, the same evening, another AGU team arrested a 62-year-old man for possession of drugs while conducting patrols in Reiger Park.
According to the police, the man had 14 ziplock bags containing methcathinone (Cat), 43 Mandrax tablets, and 105 half Mandrax tablets. He will also appear in court soon.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or criminal activity by calling the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111, or by submitting anonymous tip-offs via the MySAPS app.
