Attempted ‘hit’ in Van Dyk Park believed to be linked to Madlanga Commission

The victim hid under his bakkie to escape the hail of bullets from the occupants of a white Toyota Vitz.

Gauteng Provincial SAPS commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni is on the scene in Van Dyk Park, Boksburg, following what is believed to have been an attempted hit on a resident linked to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The Boksburg Advertiser reports from the scene that the Klapper Street resident narrowly escaped the apparent hit after coming under fire outside his home.

A reliable source told this publication on the scene the victim was named by a previous witness at the Madlanga Commission, relating to an ongoing IPID investigation.

Residents told the Advertiser the shooting happened at bout 09:40.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the victim was about to drive into his property when occupants of a Toyota Vitz opened fire on him.

His car has 16 bullet holes, andhe hid under the car to escape the gunfire, Nevhuhulwi said.

“They fired shots at him before driving away. The victim escaped unharmed. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.”

A case of attempted murder has been opened.
