UPDATE: Ekurhuleni crews working overtime to clear grass-cutting backlog

The metro said this has derailed all the teams from their maintenance plans.

The City of Ekurhuleni has resorted to approving overtime for its grass-cutting crew to clear the created grass-cutting backlog in the city.

Amid the wet weather spell, fast-growing grass and vegetation continue to invade public spaces, reducing them to eyesores and creating safety concerns.
Responding to the Boksburg Advertiser request for comment, the city said this week it suffered delays due to the wet weather, but its teams are working hard on the schedule and are hopeful that the granted overtime will assist with catching up with the backlog.

According to metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the grass-cutting cycles now has a longer turn-around time, because water-logged sites have also made it impossible for grass-cutting to take place as they are not easily accessible.
“This has derailed all the teams from their maintenance plans. Hence the metro approved working overtime in an effort to catch up with the schedule.”

On the other hand, workers at some of the public facilities blamed the problem on lack of staff and equipment breakdown.
When asked whether the city is intending to replace the broken equipment, Dlamini said maintenance of non-operational equipment is currently underway through the service providers.
